International Travel

In centuries past, international travel was usually limited to ambitious traders and curious scholars. Then, vast fleets of ships (and later airplanes) opened up a world of opportunities to a new class of wanderer – the leisure traveler. If you are one of those who enjoy the thrill of international travel, you can have your pick of destinations from any of the world's continents. However, there are certain guidelines that you need to follow to ensure a pleasant, care-free travel experience.

Tickets
While it may sound self-evident, many people still leave this all important document for the last. You should ensure that you have confirmed tickets for all portions of your journey as soon as possible. Another advantage of booking early is that you can usually take advantage of special offers and discounted rates. Another factor to watch out for is validity – make sure you book your tickets from a reputable source.

Accommodation

Once you reach your destination, your hotel will be your "home away from home". You should select the right place carefully, one that suits your budget, wants and travel plans. For example, if you are on a business trip, then paying a little extra to stay near the city center may be worthwhile. However, if your plans are focused on leisure and sightseeing, then you need to find a hotel that caters to these requirements. Before you confirm your booking, ensure that you are clear on the various facilities your hotel can offer you.

Travel gear
During international travel, you will have to pay close attention to the type and quantity of luggage you are carrying. While airlines regulate the size and shape of your travel gear, they also charge you extra if your luggage weighs more than their standards. You may even be unlucky enough to have your luggage lost, so try and carry the basics with you as hand luggage.

Legalities
When you travel to other countries, there are many formalities you have to address, beginning with basics like a valid visa. Make sure you do your research and understand all the laws that will be applicable to you – it’s no laughing matter to be stuck in a distant country without adequate paperwork! You should also invest in comprehensive travel and health insurance for peace of mind. Another factor during international travel is that of Forex - pay close attention to your host country's rules on how much money you are allowed to carry.

Finally, you should use your common sense. International travel can be a life-enriching experience, but only if you keep your wits about you and show due respect to other people's culture and sensibilities. So keep an open mind, a cheerful disposition, and have fun!
