Hotels

For tens of thousands of years, mankind has suffered from an incurable case of wanderlust that has lead us to explore the furthest reaches of the planet. While early travelers usually carried their own gear to camp and rest, there was soon a need to have convenient shelter for people on the move. Starting with larger towns on commercial trails, a brand new trade was born to provide accommodation and meals for travelers. This was the birth of hotels, as we know them now.

Of course, modern hotels do much more than provide convenient resting spots. Even the most basic hotels provide clean, comfortable sleeping arrangements along with bathrooms and dining facilities. Larger hotels can occupy entire buildings and come replete with additional facilities like swimming pools and several restaurants. In fact, the sheer variety of hotels makes it difficult to classify them on any one feature or factor.

Location
One way to differentiate hotels is on the basis of their location. Some hotels are based in urban areas as refugees for the professional traveler, while others are based in exotic locales that appeal to those looking for rest and relaxation. In fact, you can find hotels in every extreme of geography, from windswept mountains to the depths of the tropical jungle!

Clientele
Business hotels, as the name suggests, are designed to appeal to traveling professionals. These usually come with facilities like conference rooms, high-speed internet, and business communications. Some business hotels even provide specialized staff to take care of their guests' secretarial needs. At the other end of the spectrum, backpacker hotels are meant for the adventurous traveler who is looking just for basic, inexpensive accommodations.

Features
Hotels offer their guests a wide range of leisure options, based on their clientele's preferences. For instance, spa hotels are focused on providing a relaxed, spiritual atmosphere where guests can enjoy a healthy break from everyday stresses. Hotels in destinations like Las Vegas, on the other end, offer a huge assortment of entertainment options that appeal to guests looking for a more exciting atmosphere.

Quality
One way to differentiate hotels is on the basis of quality of services and features on offer. At the high end, luxury hotels are impressive buildings with a strong emphasis on providing guests with personalized service that caters to every conceivable need. On the lower end, you have hotels that provide basic stopover facilities on an hourly basis. In between these two extremes, you will find all possible grades of comfort and quality of service.
