Different Paintball tactics have the common theme of being alert and the alertness is crucial if the team needs to pull of impending or surprise attacks. It is common for rookie players and first timers to falter in their first attempts, however, practice makes perfect and with the right training and observation, even a rookie can become an impressive contributor to the team in no time and is ready to take on the battlefield. Paintball tactics also emphasize on the ability to apply guerilla techniques to outwit and overwhelm the opponents.

Experience from traditional wars and wars over the centuries have revealed that experienced and shrewd generals use guerilla tactics when they are outnumbered by their enemies. In guerilla warfare, the enemy is attacked when the enemy least expects the attack, tear down their flank and key attack positions and leave the soldiers vulnerable without the guidance of their leaders. However such tactics may not always work especially if the opponent is alert and have counter flanks to retaliate or create false sense of vulnerability.

 Another one of the Paintball tactics is coordinated swamping and overwhelming the enemy from positions when they are ready to attack you. It is also important that the key team members are backed up and have defenses to overlook and protect them as they go on attacking. A team without an experienced or a skilled player is handicapped.
